Kenneth H. Williamson, Z/926

Kenneth Harper Williamson was born 14th April 1898 and whilst at Cranleigh School spent over two years in the OTC.

Kenneth entered the RND as an Ordinary Seaman on 21st November '14 and drafted to the Public Schools Battalion the following February. During April he was promoted to Able Seaman and drafted to the "D" Company of Hawke Battalion before arriving on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

He is reported as sustaining a severe gunshot wound to the head on the 18th June and was taken to the No. 1 Australian Stationary Hospital at Lemnos. A little over two weeks later he was transferred to the 21st General Hospital, Alexandria from HS Dunluce Castle. It is reported that he had a gunshot wound to his left foot that was serious as septicaemia had set in. In the middle of July Kenneth was reported as dangerously ill.

In early August he was invalided back to the UK aboard HS Letitia and admitted to Haslar Hospital. During the middle of the month his condition was recorded as satisfactory. Kenneth was discharged from hospital in early October and granted one months leave prior to being drafted to the reserve battalions.

On 25th January '16 Kenneth was discharged from the RND to take up a commission in the OTC. He was serving in the King's Royal Rifle Corps when he was wounded during the Battle of Arras. Kenneth died of his wounds on 19th April '17 and is buried in the Etaples Military Cemetry.
