Laurence Jamieson, Z/1950

Laurence Jamieson was born on 24th September 1893 in Lerwick, Shetland Islands. He was the second son of Robert and Catherine Jamieson and prior to enlisting Laurence was employed as a warehouseman.

Laurence enlisted with the RND on 16th November 1914 and given the service number Z/1950. Drafted to the Benbow Battalion as an Ordinary Seaman he initially remained in training at Blanford when the Division was ordered to Gallipoli. Laurence was promoted to the rank of Able Seaman before arriving on the Peninsula in May '15.

Following the Third Battle of Krithia the Benbow Battalion was disbanded and Laurence was transferred to Nelson. One month later he was was killed by machine-gun fire during the Action of Achi Baba Nullah. Laurence has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Helles memorial.
